2021 Digital Championships and Seminar Recap

On Sunday July 11, 2021 the WHRDA hosted a special day of seminars and global celebration of Italy’s 20^th Anniversary.  While there is normally a global gathering in-person each year for a world championship tournament and a week-long training conference, this year we coordinated world time zones to connect via zoom due to the continued COVID restrictions.

The majority of participants were able to join in with their peers from their local Academies & Clubs, as most dojang locations were able to setup a big screen TV experience for the event.  Everyone else connected from home, from cabins, or even from summer vacation settings, and the couple hundred participants moved through a quality online event experience.

The essence of the martial virtue Loyalty is demonstrated by an individual’s dedication to their martial art.  The foundation of this mentality is such that the individual’s spirt and actions promote the general well being of their art through positive endeavors.

Hwa Rang Do Minneapolis Summer Camps 2021

The summer is off to a great start at the Minneapolis Hwa Rang Do® Academy! Two summer camp sessions were offered in the month of June.  The first session was Robotics Week, June 14 - 18, and the second session was All Around The World, June 21-25.   During Robotics Week the children had ample time to refine their skills through focusing on the technical proficiencies of long form and self-defense techniques.

Centurion to Hwarang

One could have never imagined that in the 21 Century that the stronghold of the Hwarang Warriors would be in what was once the center of the Western Civilization, the Roman Empire, but in retrospect it seems as though it was destiny. It would take a man who has dedicated his entire life to become a strong warrior, who is of the most disciplined character and unyielding fortitude, living a life of military service, unknowingly being exemplary of the Hwarang Spirit, who would ultimately connect with its kindred spirit.

Courage to Never Retreat in the Face of the Enemy

Now more than ever we need to reflect, understand, and exercise our Fourth Code. Our ancient leaders, king, and sage were all wise to establish a warrior code which can stand as a foundation for the cultivation and development of perfect warriors. Before any physical training, formation of troops, devising of battle plans, the Hwarang O Kae was written and laid down by a Sage Won Kwang Bopsa. He wrote down five simple, eloquent, yet powerful codes to follow for the perfection of a person desiring to serve and protect the king, the people, and the land by exemplifying what is good, honorable, and noble, the highest value being one of self-sacrifice.

WHRDA Non-Profit Update May 2021

2020 was a year focused on rolling with the COVID punches, and prioritizing the move to digital platforms in order to keep our students actively training and connected.  Despite the lack of ability to traverse in the world throughout most countries, we were able to connect through zoom training and through our own digital platform.
